About
Before we can discuss what the Mercedes-Benz logo means, it’ll be helpful to establish some baseline knowledge regarding the origins of the Mercedes-Benz logo. Back in 1890, Gottlieb Daimler founded a company that would later become Mercedes-Benz. That same year, the company was taken over by two individuals named Wilhelm Maybach and Emil Jellinek, though Daimler’s two sons—Paul and Adolf—remained involved in the company for several years after. Fast forward to 1909, when Daimler’s sons discovered an old postcard sent to them by their father, postmarked 1872. On it, the location of their home was pointed out by a 3-pointed star. It is said that the brothers took great inspiration from that postcard and the star that adorned it, so much so that they acquired the logo and emblazoned it on their vehicles. Initially, the Mercedes-Benz 3-pointed star was colored in blue, and it was revised to include a laurel border in 1926. By 1934, the color of the star would change to the silver color that it still is today.
As you can discern from the story above, the Mercedes-Benz logo’s meaning is largely a story of family and dedication to a father who dreamed of engineering cutting-edge performance vehicles. But is there more to the story? Some say yes:
