What Happens If You Don’t Schedule Mercedes-Benz Oil Service?

Oil Changes

You might wonder what happens if you forget to schedule your Mercedes-Benz oil replacement, or what risks there are if you happen to spring a leak. Simply put, your engine will start to heat up, and moving parts will start to wear down more quickly. Without the lubricating and heat-distributing capabilities of approved synthetic motor oil, you risk serious, lasting damage to core components.

What Does Motor Oil Do?

In at least one respect, Mercedes-Benz vehicles are similar to virtually every other vehicle on the roads near Norwalk. Your luxury car or SUV requires motor oil in order to function, and scheduling regular Mercedes-Benz oil service is one of the most important things you can do to preserve its capabilities for the years ahead. With this in mind, take a closer look at the role that Mercedes-Benz synthetic motor oil plays in your vehicle’s operation:

  • Your engine is composed of many moving parts, and motor oil is responsible for lubricating those parts. It also helps to improve the functioning of your piston ring seals.
  • Mercedes-Benz synthetic motor oil utilizes dispersants to clean sludge from your engine and help your components last longer. Detergents in the oil help to remove varnish and various acids.
  • Motor oil also redistributes heat away from the hardest-working parts of your engine. Failing to replace your oil regularly can lead to a concentration of damaging heat.

How Often Should I Change My Vehicle’s Oil?

In Mercedes-Benz vehicles manufactured during and after 2009, Mercedes-Benz Synthetic Motor Oil Replacement* is part of your regular Service A** or Service B** visit. Your ASSYST Plus tracking system will let you know when it’s time to schedule service by displaying an icon on your dashboard. However, since you’ll never want first-hand experience of what happens when you don’t get your oil replaced, you should also keep track of visits on your own. Make sure you’re visiting a Mercedes-Benz service center near Fairfield or Norwalk at least once per year or once every 10,000 miles***.

How Do I Replace the Oil Myself?

Since Mercedes-Benz Synthetic Motor Oil Replacement is part of a service schedule that also includes many other important checks and replacements, it’s a good idea to schedule service instead of handling this task at home. However, we understand that many of our neighbors want to understand how things work under the hood. Even if you’ve been gripped by the spirit of DIY, make sure to pick out an appropriate filter and an approved synthetic oil product from our parts department. Here’s how to replace the oil in your vehicle if you ever need to do so on your own:

  1. Lift the car into the air using a jack and a set of jack stands, or steel ramps.
  2. Locate the plug, and place a pan beneath the oil basin, underneath your vehicle. Unscrew the plug and allow the oil to drain out completely; this may take up to fifteen minutes, and the oil is likely to splash.
  3. Locate your oil filter underneath the vehicle, and remove it using a wrench. When you install the new filter, make sure to apply a small amount of oil to the seal.
  4. With the new filter in place, tighten it by hand. Tightening it with a wrench could leak to breakage or cracking.
  5. With the new filter in place and the old oil drained from your vehicle, it’s time to add more. Find the oil cap underneath the hood, and remove it.
  6. Pour in the recommended amount of Mercedes-Benz Synthetic Motor Oil, and check your owner’s manual if you’re unsure of how much to add.
  7. Check your oil level using the dipstick, and be certain that you’re at the full line before closing everything down and hitting the road.
